Counseling does not have to be provided in person. Telehealth (also called teletherapy or telemedicine) offers counseling or coaching in the comfort and convenience of your own environment.
If you are interested in teletherapy, please don’t hesitate to contact me. We can explore your options so we can find a counseling format that works for you.
What is teletherapy?
Teletherapy is just like therapy in an office, it’s just delivered via phone, tablet, or computer.
For whom is teletherapy appropriate?
Simply put, anyone.
Here are some examples of clients who have found it helpful:
- People who are really pressed for time.
- People who want expert advice but live far from my offices.
- People who are house-bound or can’t make the trip to my offices.
- People who can’t find child care to make it to an appointment.
- People who are ill but want to keep their appointment.
- People who would prefer to have their session at work during their lunch hour or from home.
- Couples/Families who want a counseling session but whose schedules are packed.
- People who want a shorter appointment (30 minute appointments available).
- Existing clients who are traveling.
- College students who want to maintain their growth in therapy while away from home and cannot or don’t want to use on-campus therapists.
How does teletherapy work?
I will send you a link for my HIPAA-compliant, private and secure waiting room.
You just click on the link with your phone, tablet, or computer at your appointment time. It will let me know when you’re there and we begin the session.
What does teletherapy cost? Does insurance cover teletherapy?
Many Insurance companies cover teletherapy. I am happy to check your benefits and let you know. Many of my clients also choose to privately pay.
Can I do both in-person and teletherapy?
Yes. Both types of services are available to you as and when you choose. You can switch back and forth or arrange sessions in whatever way works best for you.
Will it still feel personal?
Some clients do tell me that in the first few minutes of the session, it may feel weird. But just a few minutes into the conversation, we are able to hit our stride and have a meaningful, productive session. You are still talking to me, and I am still seeing you.
Do I need a good internet connection?
Any standard internet connection is more than sufficient.
Do we have to meet in person first?
No, meeting in person is not always necessary, and is never required if you private pay. If you plan to use insurance, I am happy to check with your carrier so you can make the decision that works for you.
Call or email me if you’re interested in teletherapy and I can answer any questions you have and see if it’s a good fit for you!
